Cross Hall – Park Review
After a particularly hectic few weeks Mrs K and I decided that what was need was a couple of days peace and quiet away in our little home from home touring caravan and Cross Hall Caravan Park just outside the lovely North Yorkshire market town of Sedbergh really ticked every box we could have wished for.
The tranquil Howgills, a group of beautiful rounded hills intersected by steep-sided valleys which form a magnificent backdrop to the park really give the area its character and the gentle sounds of the cows from the working farm together with the ever present free range chickens keeping a watchful eye on you as you set up make you feel part of the family as soon as you arrive.
And Cross Hall really is like a small and intimate family with around ten owner occupied static holiday homes, hard standing for around half a dozen tourers with hook-ups and camping in the adjoining field presided over by the owners Bob and Karen who really cannot do enough to make your stay, peaceful, tranquil and a haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. One of the static caravan owners, Roy, together with his wife Margaret help Bob and Karen keep the family feeling by meeting and greeting new arrivals with so much warmth you felt you had known them for years and years.
If you travel the couple of miles into Sedbergh, make sure you sample the Fish and Chips at the Haddock Paddock where you will be looked after by the lovely Fran who serves you with typical Yorkshire humour and ready smiles and wit.
Back to Cross Hall and we immediately felt the ‘wind down’ and after a short walk across the fields, working off those excellent fish and chips, we settled down to catch up on some well missed reading of our favourite novels and before we knew it the tranquillity of Cross Hall caught up with us and an early night ensued.
On waking the next morning all our earlier plans for a busy drive out went out of the window and we decided just to drink in the peace and quiet and literally did nothing till well after lunch such was the relaxing atmosphere of the park.
Mrs K and I cannot praise Cross Hall caravan Park highly enough, so if you want peace, tranquillity and a true get away from it all break contact Bob or Karen and take your tourer or tent to this island of serenity and calm not as far from the madding crowd as you might think.
