Kendal Caravans & Westfield Caravans has always had pride in offering a specialist delivery service.
Our trucks are specially designed for static caravan holiday home delivery, and some of the park locations can be tricky, to say the least. Static caravans are much wider than a standard lorry and heavier than they used to be, and the height can cause challenges too.
During the Spring of 2022, we took the decision to replace one of our trucks due to reliability issues with one of our fleet. We placed an order with Solway DAF, Carlisle for a brand new DAF XF 450 with the specification customised to suit our requirements. This was only the start of the journey, because once the truck had been delivered the design and build of the specialist body had to be implemented.
We have invested in a completely new design incorporating hydraulic lifts for the caravan, making loading safer, easier and quicker; this also enables the load to be kept lower on the truck, a rear steering lift axle helps access into and around caravan parks, digital cameras are positioned so the driver can see the full width and length of the loaded caravan, and a hydraulic winch replaces the electric for added reliability.
Our experienced drivers, Martin Illingworth and Steve Mitchell have had their input into the design too, which has ensured that they have a state-of-the-art delivery truck which they are proud of.
The company’s investment is significant, but it is paramount that we offer a reliable delivery service that keeps up with design and development of modern holiday caravans, which are becoming larger and heavier!
The new design has been tried and tested, therefore, without hesitation we have decided to replace our second truck with another New DAF XF 450, we expect delivery of the chassis cab in March 2024, and are planning to have the completed vehicle ready by July 2024.
